Game Summary
CJ Morrow made it clear in the bottom of the 1st that it was going to be a defensive game with two great grabs in right field.
AJ Rizzo played the role of PO (pitcher only) for the Mariners after spraining his ankle versus the Phillies the day before. He gutted out 5 innings of 1 run baseball, allowing only 3 hits and 0 walks. The Mariners felt they were in a good spot up 5-1 after 5 innings.
The Angels squeaked out a run in the 6th after a lead off walk to Ted Palm. Then in the 7th they rallied for 3 more runs with 1 out. Gustavo Mekhitarian and Cristian Ramos had back-to-back singles, and Max Donegan batted in both after reaching on an error. Jack Currier came up with 2 outs, the score 5-4 and Donegan now on 2nd. Currier hit a clutch single over the Mariners shortstop to tie the game at 5.
The Angels would have tacked on a few more runs if it wasn’t for a diving grab by Jack Furrier in center to end the rally.
The Angels put a night cap on the defensive show when Cole Morrow made a fabulous catch at 3rd on a ball piped off the bat of Aaron Bowers. The Mariners could only muster a single off Kyle Koster in the bottom of the 7th and the game ended in a tie. Congratulations to all the Mariners and Angels who played in this defensive battle.
